Bit odd to have a 1/2" parting tool - too wide for my thoughts. Ditto the 1/2" skew - but this time I think it is too narrow, should be a 1" if this set is aimed largely at beginners. Other tools not too bad, and at £10 per tool they look a bargain.

The tool that gets never used, i know what you mean, i had one, is reground into a bedan now.

It's only 1/8" thick at the most I would have thought, I believe the 1/2" refers to the width not thickness, would have been better if it was a diamond form but still quite usable.

With my current round of boxes the four most used tools are.
Bowl gouge,
1/2" parting tool (diamond form)
1/2" skew. (detail and dovetail forming)
1/2" round nosed scraper. (for blending the insides)

I think whatever "Set" is purchased there are always going to be compromises, my main take on that is can or could any of the less desirable forms be re-ground at a later date to form an oddball useful tool, that's what happened to my budget buy set from the beginning of my fray into the spinny world so they have not been a wasted purchase.

At least a less than perfect set gives someone a benchmark for comparison purposes so that they can make a better informed choice when they have enough experience at sharpening and maybe go looking for an upgrade.

I think they are the same set as the Faithfull ones on eBay and Amazon. They have decent reviews. I almost got them until I saw a set of 8 Sorby ones in the local paper for £35 that turned out to be 6 Ashley Isles chisels, one Sorby and a round nosed scraper made out of a file.

I think you will find they are quite popular American make Dakota and they look to be made with a good quality HSS steel and in my opinion a very good starter set and at a very good price
