I have just bought (for pennies) a second-hand spokeshave and after cleaning it up flattening the back of the blade ground a 25deg. cutting angle, do I need a honed angle?

I do not know if you need a honed angle from a technical perspective but I always put a second bevel on planes and chisels. It just makes sharpening them much quicker.

Absolutely - unless you want to spend hours and hours sharpening it.

If this is a metal spokeshave, why not try a small secondary bevel of 30 degrees.
