I know that this is a very long shot but.

I dropped my Axi combi square. Not from a great height, I was kneeling down, but I must have caught just wrong. The rule fell out and I couldn't get it back in. That is because the little lug that engages in the groove of the ruler has broken off. And no, I never did find it, it was outside on the yard.
I have all the rest of the kit with it, protractor and circle-finding head, but if I can't tighten up the ruler, they are all useless.
Does anyone know of a source of spare parts for these? I shall ring Axi on Monday but I'm not holding my breath.

I did the same years ago, it turns out it was a Whitworth bolt, so I filled a replacement from a bolt.

Thanks, both.
I have a Cromwell's just along the road, so I'll call in. They won't have one in but they can get most things overnight. That way I get to see if it fits before I buy.
I've also found a retailer in China and have emailed them to see if it is available as a spare part.
I quite like the idea of filing a bolt to make my own, but my I-bet-there-is-one-of-them-in-here-somewhere tin grew legs and its successor is nowhere near as well populated yet.
I'll keep you posted.

Steve, I'm pretty sure (NOT 100%) that I have a spare (for the same reason as you, I dropped the square!!!). I'll have a look in my "might be needed someday" box tomorrow then post a pic. IF it's the right one (and assuming I find it) it's yours - no sense in just hanging on to it if someone else needs it.

More tomorrow, probly after midday!

Found it (to my surprise)! Here it is:

As you can see it's brass, the thread is M6 and it's about 38 mm long. The "friction washer" that goes under the head is missing, but that was only a thin flat stock circular double spiral. I can probably find something that'll do if you don't have something.

It's yours if it's OK for you, just send me a PM with your address (in case I've lost it) and it'll go in the post tomorrow.

Don't expect a quick answer just now - we had our heaviest snow of the winter overnight and I've got to go and clear the garage door, path, etc, soon.

Cheers

OK Steve, it's yours and will go in the post tomorrow. Do you want me to look for something to replace the "friction/locking washer" or can you get something fixed up OK yourself? (If me, I guess I'll be trying an steel coil spring backed up with a thin ordinary washer. It's only a friction lock to stop the relatively large nut coming undone).

PM me your address please, I checked and no longer have it.

Cheers

My Starrett combination square had the same problem when I bought it secondhand. That's why I got it cheap.
A friend who is a professional welder and machinist built up the log with weld and then I filed it to fit. I have used it for quite a few years after that.
Just for the record.
