Keep reading enthusiastic praise for this from turners, and wondering whether to ditch Tormeks etc. in favour of one. BUT, wondering if they are any good for planer blades? Haven't seen any mention of dedicated or custom built jig for this.

I believe this does the job although I don't see much on the web from people using the Pro Edge for planes.

No that accessory just allows squaring of the cutting edge on plane or chisel blades, the alignment of tool rest and belt platen is not guaranteed square so accessory fence needs adjustment square to belt platen.

Have not seen a jig suitable for handling wide planer blades, would have to be quite substantial and rigid to allow smooth transition of blade past belt. Hand held electric planer blades should be ok on existing accessories being little different to a hand plane blade in effect.
