OK, I let the ads display as I was asked, very politely, to consider setting off my ad blocker on this site as the revenues help pay for the forum. No problem there for me, others feel different, I know.

But why did I get an advert for Tesco cooking equipment? I thought that these adverts were meant to be intuitive yet there is nothing
that I can think of that would prompt Tescos to think that I would be the least bit interested in their cooking utensils.

Then I looked again and there is an advert offering me pallet configuration stuff and something called a pallet leveller. What the hell is that?

I shall pay a lot more attention to the adverts now. I'm curious as to how wrong they can get it, for me!

Have a word with google - its them that decide the content. They've either hitched onto a random word somewhere in your browsing history or maybe you have turned targeted ads off? which means you'll get any old rubbish.
Or the house elves have been using your pc :)

It's based on what you, or whoever have used the computer has searched for or read in forums where google ads are present ... At least it's not embarrassing stuff.. ask Gavin Barwell MP how it can backfire...

I switched my ABlock off to see how intrusive the ads. are - and I don't get ads. or the ablock warning. :? I do have Privacy Badger.

Similar, I use Opera with Privacy Badger, I've turned off the adblock in Opera for this site an no longer get the adblock whinge and just a small ad banner next to the UKWorkshop name at the top of the page which cycles between Axminster and Appleby's which is not intrusive and does not seem to affect the page loading time.

I keep getting offered women by post from far off lands. But don't see the point of it if they wont uplift the old one at the same time

Not sure this is the case. I turned off my addblock and keep getting adds for Argos. Dont think I have put my foot inside the door of one let alone bought anything from them :D

I've just signed up for tailored offers from First Direct on my credit & debit cards.

The very first was a very generous discount from Mothercare.

I am 61 years old with no kids.

I'm just off to look up the meaning of "tailored".

I disabled my adblocker and now I get little ads at the top of the page and a great big notice on the RHS asking me to disable my adblocker
