Just started making a side table in oak. So far to date the legs are now fixed to the rails.

May get some more time this week to fit the front rails to take two draws.

That looks great, never thought of using a sliding dovetail like that before.

In that last picture, it looks like your rails are different widths/heights is that going to be a problem or is it just perspective?

Some more work done on the table and is starting to look well a table.
Side rail,

I have to finish with the card scraper then wash with oxalic acid, then I will carry on with the rest of the frame work, the draws and the top.

Thanks for looking

Is the wash to remove the sort of blackening you've got in areas?

Lovely table, the banding is excellent!

Nice job...as a matter of interest, where can you get hold of oxalic acid? I also recollect that the acid was neutralised afterwards with a boric acid wash? :duno: - Rob

So here is an update on the table.

Had to buy some oak for the top. I didn't have anything suitable so,

So with it cut and sized a dry glue up

This is quarter sawn and shows the grain up well.

With the draws almost done ready for glue

Will be back working on the top in the next day or so.

Hi,

I like the effect the stringing/banding brings in. Have you used an electric router or hand tools to cut the grooves? also have you cut the banding yourself or have you bought it?
I bet there was a lot of hand work involved, hence the stains on the oak wood. It also happens to me because of my sweaty hands.

Hi cerdeira, all the work for the stringing was done with a scratch stock. I bought the stringing 1.5mm square ebony.
This is my scratch stock, simple but works,

Many Thanks

We had to use one of those scratch stocks/beading tools in our first year at night class. Dropped it like a stone when they introduced us to the router :D

Nice looking work so far
