Hi all,

Could a 351s owner give me their bearing size for the top wheel perhaps? My top wheel had a lot of play in it, so its either a worn shaft, or the bearings are the wrong size. They are fine inside.

Upon removal, I thought they looked familiar, and indeed, in my machine, were some 6001 2RS bearings, which are for mountain bikes. It's possible they are correct as its a common size, but if anyone knows for certain, I'd be grateful.

Thanks

I cant help with what size should be in your startrite but 2001's are common sizes fitted to a wide variety of machinery not just mountain bikes.
If you can measure the shaft and the housing that the bearing goes in and the width required that will tell you what size bearing you need.
I have quite a few startrite machines and have always found that they used imperial and metric sizes on the same machine.

6001 dimensions are 12 x 28 x 8 and the nearest imperial bearing ( 1/2 x 1-1/8 x 5/16) would be a real rattling good fit on the shaft and not fit in the wheel

There is no other 12x28 x ? in my boys book of bearings so I would conclude you have the correct ones but they may be worn.

Thanks fellas.

I've sent an email to ALT to see if they can help with the OEM part specification. As you say though, there can't be too many types that would fit at all. It just looks like a fairly new bearing. Grease inside was spotless.

I'll see what ALT say, I think they have the complete hub in stock. I don't think the bearing was sold separately.

ALT have confirmed the correct bearing size is 6001 2RS.

So seems I'm looking at a worn shaft, or the amount of play is correct. Hmm.
