Hi Dan,
I'm extremely interested in your upgrade, because the laser on my sliding compound mitre saw has become defunct - and, just naturally, the saw model has been superceded and the laser unit is "discontinued"!
It was never really ideal, as the switch for the laser was miles away from the handle, so if you could give me a heads up on locating the switch in the handle I'd be extremely grateful. (I've found a suitable laser and battery box on the Bay, it's knowledge I'm seeking!
