Well, I got the blade off. It took one of these little kits that despite the mixed reviews worked very well.

The bolt was very stuck - once the removal tool had got a good bite it took some very gentle persuasion with a spanner as the cordless drill didn't have enough torque.

And for the record, it loosened anti-clockwise. Thanks for all the help - glad I didn't do any further damage! :roll:

Get a replacement of another make - Festool, Bosch, Makita, DeWalt... their bolts ought to fit and will be much better quality than the original ! Check first, obviously...

I've got a nice strong hex bolt on there now.
