I have DRO digital scales in two directions mounted on my WoodRat. They are sold here www.chipsfly.com and are relatively cheap because of the falling dollar. They come with simple mounts which could be adapted to a wide variety of applications. (Look for Accessories on that website).

So. How do I like these scales? Well for some operations, like Sliding Dovetails, I would say they are indispensable, because the difference between tight/sloppy is about .002 of an inch. Same for Box Joints. But in all instances, one feels as if one is toiling at a Milling Machine and not woodworking. I much prefer cutting to a line, especially for Dovetails.

This is offset, however, by my age. My eyes aren't good. Same would be true for those in a poorly illuminated shop.
