I own a lumberjack pr12 1/2" router and a set of silverline guides, guess what don't fit of course, has anybody modified anything like this before, any suggestions gratefully received

Also check that with the universal base fitted, the cutter will protrude sufficiently for the job without compromising the insertion depth in the collet. Most cutter shanks should be marked with a line or a line + arrowhead looking a bit like a capital K

Sometimes a bearing guided cutter can be used instead with better results.
 
Have got a trend universal base, due to be delivered tomorrow hopefully this will solve the problem. Or it's back to square one, we will wait to see.
