Raised panel help needed

Hi all i have a 6 panel raised door to make and have never made raised panels, the door is 52mm thick how thick would you make the panels ?

A picture of what you want to achieve would help as there are several forms of raised panel, from false planted panels, raised and fielded panels or raised and fielded with bolection mould edges.

If the fielded panel is held into a rebate with a timber bead, deduct the moulding and thickness of bead from door thickness to determine tongue on panel, then add the depth of fielding x 2.

As a general rule I make the panels about 3/4 the thickness of the styles. However, it to some degree depends on the moulding. If the moulding is not very deep, I adjust the thickness of the panels accordingly. You want to create shadows from the moulding / reliefs to create interest / feeling of quality. The easiest solution to see what you like us to toddle off to a shed / door retailer and look at panelled doors and see what you like. Measure up and copy the dimensions.
