We have a Sony RDR-HXD770 combined DVD recorder and Freeview box. Happened to fire it up recently to discover that there is no EPG data for any of the BBC mux channels. We can still view these channels just fine. Signal quality is 100%. Just that there is no EPG data. As far as I am aware there have been no OTA updates for this device as it is pretty elderly now. Nor do I think it related to our local transmitter Ridge Hill as the other PVRs work just fine.

I've powered down, removed the aerial then done a channel rescan to wipe out any existing channels. Then replaced the aerial and done a new rescan. No change. I notice that there are some BBC Welsh channels in the 800 channel region and do know that on some PVRs that can cause other problems although none (as far as I am aware) relating to the EPG. However, there is no way on this Sony that one can delete these channels and I am guessing that they have always been there...so probably this is a red herring.

The one thing I have yet to try is a Factory Reset but reluctant to do so as that loses all the recorded programmes.

Googling shows up little for this box so I'm stumped?

Any thoughts ?

Hi Droogs

Thanks for that link. If I was desperate I'd burn them to DVD as this PVR has a DVD burner in it....v handy and the reason why I bought it.

Sony support were pretty good and sent me a three part 'solution' list. I'd already done 1 and 2 which left the Hard Reset. I decided I could forego whatever I had recorded and so went for it. The good news was that it fixed the problem. The even better news was that the recordings remained untouched (unlike the other PVRs we have which wipes the directory).

Nice, wish I could do thst on mine. On machine #3 & lost all of norm each time :(. Glad you got it sorted
