I logged in to the last wood auction at Pugh's using Easy Live Auction - just to see what it was like.
Having absolutely zero self control when it comes to buying wood, I had a couple of "punts" for a few pounds and managed to win an Oak Tripod for £5. Somehow the dimensions didn't really register with me on line and 134 x 4 x 2 didn't really seem that big until I collected it - and I was greeted with "so you're the one that bought it!".
Having managed to get it home, I got the boss to pose just to show how big it was.
I suspect it was used for slaughtering pigs but apart from a few areas of worm holes, the wood was very solid.
As I had employed the LOML to help collect it, I thought I'd better make her something: -
As well as getting brownie points, I also have 2 x 6' lengths of 4" x 2" which for £5 is a bit of a bonus.
I'm sure the points won't last too long (especially after my recent thread on Japanese chisels) but you have to take them when you can.
