HI
I will be erecting a partition in my old kitchen which is below my bathroom , within this partition i will be putting 3 large sliding wardrobe doors
i don't know the weight of them. but the header of the partition to which the top track is being fixed. is running parallel to the joists above. the bathroom floor is laminated. so i can't really take the floor boards up to see what's going on under the bathroom floor, pipes and electrical etc,
anyone got any ideas in which way i can fix the header to the plasterboard or any other input.
thanks again.

Do you have the option to bring the partition out to be under a joist and fix to that? If not I wondered whether construction adhesive along the whole header would work with a substantial framework. Really depends on the weight of the doors but I tend to over engineer things.

The plasterboard wont take the weight of the top hung doors. It will just pull down where nailed / screwed.

I suppose the choices are, bottom running track, cut plasterboard noggin then replasterboard and skim. If the wardrobe doors are in front of a cupboard system then make the top rail to be supported on top of the cupboards assuming the carcasses will have some uprights.

Exactly what he says. Unless you can fit a decent size header timber, supported at both ends it won't work.

I did it with 3 very large veneered 18mm chipboard in our utility but could not have if I hadn't been able to access from above to fit noggins to the existing joists

If they are the lightweight off the shelf type wardrobe doors, then you would probably be alright with tube adhesive and plasterboard type screws. If they are heavy, then i would remove a section of plasterboard between the two nearest joists, fit noggins, then re-board and skim.

I agree with the others, if it has to be top hung then cut out the plasterboard, noggin then replace plasterboard.
I don't think its worth the hassle to risk it going wrong for the sake of a bit of plasterboard, noggins and time.

If the design has no vertical dividers that can provide the support is there a possibility of fitting wall mounted triangular gussets that the top Rail can be planted on.
