So I recently acquired a reasonably large Parkinsons Perfect 16 woodworking vice. I've noticed when the sliding jaw is about half way I cannot unwind it by hand (the locking half nut engaging part bounces up and down). This seems to be because the guide rods become stiff due to the worn holes in the main body which the guide rods slide through. I can rectify this by boring the holes in the main body and fitting bushes to get rid of the play. My question is is this normal for a vice this size? I can't decide if its extremely worn or this is the norm with old large woodworking vices? I also don't want to go to all the effort of removing the play to find it still doesn't unwind properly!
