Just an oak money box to put my coppers in. Had some issues with patchy marks on the end grain when oiled so I re-sanded and settled for a varnished finish.

Nice and chunky, you did well with the end grain its tricky stuff.

How do you get the money out?

A nice piece!

Given that our coppers are no longer, well Copper... do you think the acidic qualities of oak could have any effect on the collections of coin therein?

Depends also how those coins stay there :)

Good question... i've no idea but i'm sure i'll find out in time.

In any case, probably won't be long until its contents are taken to be turned into a couple of notes. :)

It's something i'll consider in future though.. thanks.

this may be a stupid question but what method did you use to hollow out the inside of the box?
its made from two halves so did you route a big groove in each side?

Yes.. pretty much, except I used my table saw to cut most of the waste and chiselled out the rest.
