So, there's a new arrival in the workshop:

A Wilson P/T, will plane 21" width and thickness 20" by a little over 9".

There's a little oil reservoir on the rear of the machine which I think supplies the gearbox that drives the feed rollers. What kind of oil should I fill it with? I would guess that SAE80/90 oil as used on motorbike chains would do a fine job, but is there anything better I should choose instead?

TIA!

Neil,

That is a magic looking bit of kit, you cannot beat a large lump of cast iron for stability. :D
Sorry no idea what oil you should use but your suggestion sounds about right. :-k

I would err on the side of Hypoid Gear Oil SAE W80-90, will stand a bit more high pressure if there's a chance of bevel or worm gears.

Should find it at local motor factors, possibly labeled for use in differentials etc.

thats a nice compact planer

SAE W80-90, gear, diff oil sounds about right. just don't use second hand oil, all mucky horrible and thin.
