I thought it looked similar to the Fein but I think the lever on these might work the other way? Also the Mak has a more powerful 320w 3amp motor and a wider degree of oscillation at 3.2dg - I've been researching these for next my purchase I'm not a tool-geek (honest)!

320w doesn't equate to 3 amps. At 240v it's 1.3A and at 110v it's 0.666666A

Actually, 320W at 110V is near as damn-it 3A - I know you were just checking that we were all paying attention.

Exactly - just testing (or something like that (homer) ) !

Anyway I'm torn between getting the Makita and the Fein.

I like the idea of the Fein as they invented the tool so they should know more about it than other producers and their products always seem well made. Most of my tools however are Makita and they never let me down. In fact if this tool free change version was out now I'd probably get that one but as it isn't I think it's just about pushing things in the Fein's favour for me. Has anyone used both that can help me out with my decision?

The thing with multitools is you don't use them much but there are just some jobs where they are invaluable.

I have the Fein but would probably buy again based on price. Mine was a gift and wife must have liked the colour :D I guarantee she didn't know what she was buying.

I heard or read somewhere that the reason Festool don't make one is that they couldn't improve on the Fein. It does seem to be an omission from their range, surely there's a gap in the market for a 400 quid multitool just waiting to be filled :D

I wouldn't have thought it would be much more than the Fein but you never know
