I believe Festool are about to launch a Domino compatible Knock Down fitting. Doubt they'll be cheap, but if you've already got a Domino machine it'll be an interesting alternative to things like the Lamello Zeta.

There's a video on the Festool website but you might have to be a registered owner and go the "MyFestool" section to find it.

They're for the 700 only... which makes them very pricey if you don't have a XL already ;)

Thanks for the heads up Custard, that looks very slick. I shudder to think what the price will be.

You are right, it is on the sneak preview tab on any myFestool login however they have a link to youtube here;

I suspect that fits into a 14mm slot and I'd be surprised if they can squeeze the mechanics of that into 10mm which is why it's probably XL only. Where did you read about the 500 development Roughcut? Would be a shame if it is limited to the XL.

Someone over on the FOG mentioned there could be third party options coming soon.
So I assume will be a non festool produced product.
Obviously not gospel and could well not happen I suppose.

Yep got Festools email this afternoon about their KD connectors, they certainly look a quality piece of kit.

Yeah a guy popped up on there a few months back saying his company were bringing out a glue less domino.

I registered on his site for further info but haven't heard much since. They're on Twitter under the name @theinteriorcafe

I caught the news of these connectors via a firm I shopped with a few months ago. The system looks the business, and no doubt will be priced to match.
I am interested mainly because I just got rid of a skip load of rubbish, and I am now in need of cupboards to fill up the space the boxes of rubbish occupied.

I favour framed construction, so if I use the connectors it will be to join two cupboards together, to make them easier to get them up the stairs! And save on the connectors of course! Dominos for the rest of the construction I think. :)

They look very neatly engineered (as we would expect from festool) so I think they will certainly be an expensive option for knock down joints. I am getting more and more tempted to swap my 500 for a 700 though, oh the money

They look very cool! Don't bother swapping get both! I have both and each have there uses

Cost aside, I fully agree, they both get used with me.

For info, the German Festool site has posted costs, someone cut and paste the detail over on the FOG.

117.81 Euros (a little over £91) for a set

Items Included for EV32 Set
• 32 anchor bolts, SV-AB D14
• 32 cross anchors, SV-QA D14
• 32 split anchors, SV-SA D14
• in carton

It was a bit tounge in cheek, i use them in a profesionel work place so they get priced into jobs. I realise both would be a huge exspense.

The price is cheaper than i thought. £1 a unit it seems. Will look into getting a set!

Will do! Once they get back from t'mine

I'll need to come up with a damned good job for the house that warrants the XL. SWMBO is getting wise these days #-o

Don't think hobbyists would read that any other way either. Agree they need to pay for themselves in most cases.

Thanks for that, so about £3 per joint. That's a lot cheaper than I was expecting. For example the Lamello Clamex KD fittings for the Zeta work out at about £1 per joint, but that's not really a fair comparison because the Festool KD fitting looks way more substantial, where as the Lamello would need either backing up with dowels or multiple Clamex fittings to achieve the same strength.

I doubt either the Clamex or the Festool version will be of interest to volume KD manufacturers, but for small independent makers who have only occasional need of KD fasteners this could be very useful. Every year I get one or two export commissions, and even though I've never yet gone down the KD route I've thought about it many times. I've considered a Lamello Zeta but have been put off by the machine price, where as I already have 500 and 700 Dominos so it would be easy to dip a toe into the water. In fact I've got an order later this year for a console table and two side tables from Washington DC (no, not for Mr Obama!), the cost of KD fastenings would be easily covered by the savings on freight, packaging, and insurance.

The other thing that occurs to me is that in terms of the debate between the 500 and XL 700 Domino machines this, from my perspective at least, decisively tips the balance in favour of the 700. Previously I've tended to favour the 500 for a whole host of reasons, but if the KD fittings are only for the 700 then, IMO, it's the clear winner. I wonder if this might be part of a bigger plan by Festool, launch these fastenings as 700 only then re-launch a next generation 500 machine with its own range of KD fastenings? Who knows, but there are now a few Festool machines, like the OF1400 router and the 500 Domino, that are starting to look a bit long in the tooth and candidates for an upgrade.
