New Chisels

After what seems like an overly extensive decision making process, made longer by the time Veritas took to hit the market; I have at long last decided on the Ashley Isles set. They arrived today from WH, next day delivery, brilliant.
I have been playing and I can only say that they are perfect for me.
Now the one thing I must ask, how on earth do you sharpen the 1/8" chisel with the scary sharp system without ripping the bl**dy papers??????
Does anyone else have this problem or am I just being clumsy?
Advice gratefully received.

Check with Matthew's Youtube video and draw the tool towards you.

Slowly and only pull towards you

You can pull and push with the wider chisels, inc the 6mm but the 3mm is probably too small, so pull only - Rob

As said pull only. I would add however that I use a very light pressure and make more passes also, the other thing I've found is sharpen at least that one freehand, it won't stay straight in a jig.

It will if you use the right jig (Kell III) and use carefully - Rob

On the positive side, sharpening tiny chisels is more fiddly, but less laborious. The area from which you're removing metal is tiny.
