Millers Falls plane

Hi, I just bought a Millers Falls no. 22 it looks like its the first time it been out of its grease proof paper and box it looks great. The problem I have got is the part which you mount the blade on is black and after a bit of research it seems it should be red, I am sure this plane has not been painted after by some one any clues.

i think that the colours did change over time- there is a type study somewhere online.
