I'm currently renovating a house and would like to reuse some of the old floor boards and joists. I would like to run these boards through my PT but need to remove the hidden nails first. Can anyone recommend a hand held metal detector or another device to find these metal items?

I did wonder if metal stud finders would be sensitive enough to find nails.

Thanks

Stud finders do work, when they work, but now i have a drum sander i do not need it. Based in norfolk if you want a price for me to run them through for you.

I use one of these from Maplin.

Works a treat. Only paid £15 for it in a sale though. Full price now :(

How do you find it in use Sam? I'd have thought from the Secuirty application it is designed for large lumps of metal at a few inches.
Will it find the odd fragment of a nail that is more than enough to wreck planer blades?

Cheers

Bob

So far, it hasn't let me down. The smallest metal it has found so far is a half broken off staple leg which wasn't visible to the eye.
Touch wood, I haven't damaged any blades yet due to metal it has missed....
