Some time ago I was reading a WW magazine where a reader had submitted a tip. The tip was in relation to, as far as I can remember an accessory called, a "master control plug extension".

In effect, a normal looking plug socket extension with several sockets for electrical items. The difference being this item had one of the sockets as a "master" socket. When for example a sander was plugged into the master socket and a vacum plugged into another of the outlets, activation of the sander would in turn activate the vac. I have looked on the net, ebay. electrical store etc but haven't been able to identify such an item, certainly not by using the words I have used to describe it.

Has anyone used such an item, know where to get one or have any ideas how to rig up such a system without treking back and forth to the vac.

Thanks in advance.

David

Quite a few of the electricity companies were giving away those master plug/sockets as part of their supposed drive to decrease electricity consumption. You might well find one in your local charity shop...............

Or on eBay for more than they cost in the shops, just like the electricity company branded energy monitors

I thought long and hard about getting one of those the last time it was discussed but decided against it. Brilliant as they are it means the vac turns off at the same time as the appliance and most times you want it to run for a few seconds longer yo clear the pipework etc.

I decided instead to go for remote controlled socket adaptors ( £20 for 3 from B&Q ) and just tuen the vac on from anywhere in the workshop with a small remote. Works brilliantly so long as you don't keep it in a pocket level with the edge of the bench :)
