think I'm having a blond moment :? I need to rout with a 30mm guide on my makita 1/2" 3612C and can't see how the guide attaches. Actually I've only ever used a guide with my Bosch router, really I dont have a clue how the guide fits to the makita router (had it for yrs probably a fitment has gone awol etc) All I have in the base plate is a gaping round hole and the guides available clearly have 4 fixing holes as per link below. Each of these routers on ebay show the same baseplate with no obvious fixing for a guide - what am I missing!!. Should I be buying a sub baseplate or something?

First link shows the guide, second link shows a router .

You're missing this piece: https://www.partshopdirect.co.uk/makita-router-base-plate-3612-3612c-p413063-1/

no I've got that fixed to the router already. How would the guide fit to this anyway??? maybe I'm missing something obvious??!

There is a slide which pulls back and then returns when the guide bush is in place you should not need to buy anything if I was clever enough with computers I would send you a picture but I am a real dinosaur and wish to stay that way

Kevin yeh I got that, wondered what that sprung thing was for (clueless lol) ok so I buy the guide and clip it in and the 4 holes on the guide dont so anything?. Seems a bit of a weak way of fixing for routing with a guide when so much accuracy is required ie guide to be dead solid...

You just need to pull out the little black slide/catch at the side of the base and it allows you to insert the guide in past the small metal 'catches' situated around the edge of the hole in the base..

Sorry beaten to it. Yes it's very secure I have used mine for a few years and never had an issue...

brilliant, thanks guys.... great help as always here. Its a fantastic router btw....served me very well but I've only used with fence and guided cutters!

Agreed - I've always been 100% happy with it. Using a guide with different guide bushings will open up a hole new world!
