my mum has asked for a small book case, but she has a lot of solid Oak furniture and using real Oak is out of the question. Can anyone recommend a finish that will approximate a dark OAK colour on pine.

Hi Tom.
IIRC I used a Georgian Medium Oak finish and a finishing wax on TPTB's coffee table giving a nice result. Not sure of the make. It may have been Colron - from one of the 'Sheds'. Focus or B&Q possibly. :shock:

It's a little darker than the picture suggests though
