Thought I'd put a sensible reply in this time.

Likes
Making the first cuts when starting a project
The fresh smell of wood when I opn the garage/workshop door
Using power tools (I watched to many NYW, thats how I got hooked)

Dislikes
As everyone else - sanding
Sharpening
Constantly vacuuming the workshop and emptying the old VAX. I must sort out some proper dust control :roll:

Likes? just about all tasks involved in a project.

Dislikes? the task I'm currently doing...

Seriously, I do like most aspects of what I am currently making or have made in the past. What I don't like is when they seem to take forever to accomplish. Guess I get bored easily.

1) Distance between back door and workshop, its only about 30 yards but sometimes when its cold and dark it feels like miles.

Seeing a nice tidy shop whenever I go in to it
Tidying up after I finish a task.
Knowing where eveything is when I start a new project.

This makes for a safe working environment

Dislikes

People who say "aren't you making anything" when they see my tidy shop.

BTW I have only got a small shop, about 250 sq feet, clear floor space about 30 sq feet

patina of old steel
using an auger bit in a carpenter's brace (always used to fascinate me as a kid watching my grandad use one)

Dislikes:

planing end grain
dropping things on my workshop/garage concrete floor

I agree with using hand tools. I feel it makes the piece very personal and a lot more 'honest'. But I'm not really one for hand-planing, unless it's to simply clean up or chamfer an edge.
The smell of different timbers (especially yellow pine!).

Dislikes:
My workshop. It's pretty secure but the roof leaks EVERYWHERE. It's cold. 5.4mx3m, but half of that is filled with mum's garage junk. :x
When something lets a good job down right at the very end. Perhaps a dripping finish or maybe it isn't quite square after all.

Working from home, for myself.
Designing and problem solving
Finishing a project and being paid!

Dislikes

Hoses and cables
Sanding (and painting)
Working from home - very hard not to be in the workshop 24/7.
Making stuff that customers want that I don't like.

Totally agree on the last one,try pricing yourself out, you'll be amazed how high you can go and suddenly you don't mind so much

LIKES:
- A "perfect" fit of hand cut joints (and perfectly matched jointed boards)
- The silky smooth feel of planing when I've just sharpened the blade and waxed the sole of the plane
- (and this forum and its members, of course)

DISLIKES:
- Having to go to work rather than making things
- People who chop up and chuck out beautifully made things (not just wood).

The feeling of being properly Tired after a Hard days Woodworking. Its very different from the Burnt out feeling I get from my Day Job. I always get a proper nights sleep after being in the workshop.

My Day Job in IT.
The cost of Hardwood. I have loads of projects in my head, but I cant afford to make most of them

I've found that it does sweeten the deal somewhat! :wink: but some folk do have appalling taste.

Looking at a piece that I’ve just applied the last coat of finish too before it leaves the workshop.
Using the tools that my Grandfather and Great Grandfather owned when they were cabinet makers

Making stupid mistakes when I “take my eye off the ball”
The general clutter of my workshop (though I try and tidy it up after each job)

- Getting lost in it all, and realising I've gone more than an hour without thinking about work!!

- Not designing something properly and consequently wishing I'd thought more about something before cutting the timber.

- This one really gets me down. I hate the feeling that I can't really do, or get something done because it'll make a racket.

what I like:
-The continous grap of the handplane blade over the wood
-To work with the tool little adapted to

what I dislike:
- The finish, although is useful (perhaps because I haven't much worked with it)
-The opposite of the second "joy", and mainly: the not to have a properly workbench.

wellll........

To be honest it all started when I found that lovely newish 3M paper. Cuts really well and doesn't clog + lasts for ages and ages. Quite therapeutic on small areas or edges :wink: I tend to plane large areas and don't sand them at all (sometimes scrape them though)
