thank you very much for the compliments, after only turning one and a half years I think I am doing ok, but I have a lot to learn yet

I used the dremmel and the ballpoint cutter for this effect.
Does anyone know which cutter I should use to pierce the wood and cut a pattern into it?

Morris,

You can get a drill bit that will also cut on it's side which might do the job. From what I recall they are not cheap, perhaps 7 quid or so (Dremmel ones), you might be able to find similar for less.
