live centre replacment

hi, me again i need to replace my live centre and i am unsure of the size to get, i have seen terms like mt2 mt3 etc. how do i know which one to get. my current one is a shade under 18mm.
any help greatly appreciated

what lathe do you have?

the MT1 or MT2 refer to the tapered part that fit into the tail stock. the difference is pretty obvious- http://littlemachineshop.com/reference/tapers.php

it sounds like you have an MT2 (sometimes described as 2MT)
