Considering making one using bearings from Axy, Stiles &Bates etc. However, to be really useful, it would have to be a pretty large diameter platter (think oriental restaurants). Small ones would seem to be pretty useless as on a small table - you can just reach acrosss.

What is the max diam the large (300mm) bearing could support ?

Anybody made any ? - comments welcome

turn your own wooden balls or use marbles or ball bearings and turn your own ring to what ever size you desire

A bit chicken and egg that one - in theory there is no minimum size, if you have a large rim so the items on the rotating platter are confined to the centre then the skys your limit or rather the distance over the lathe bed probably is. If the purpose of the platter is to put heavy or potentially off centre items on it then it might be best restricted to around 400mm. The design of the platter will also affect the dimensions, the heavier it is the wider the platter could be.

If you consider the foot size on a bowl or platter, a foot of 50% of the total diameter is considered big enough to give good stability so you could double the corner to corner dimension of the bearing.
