Finished this off this morning. Measures 14" across. This was 3 or 4 years seasoned so when I turned it a while ago I turned it to finished thickness, not expecting it to move which of course it did. Not enough left to true it up so just finished the bottom. The warped shape is not too unpleasant.
Finished with 2 coats of shellac ss and couple coats of wax.

I love oak. This has a very nice flow to it. I think any warping will enhance the shape. One of the things I like about wood is the unpredictability

I did a similar sized one, turned it from what I thought was well seasoned wood last feb or so. when I came to repolish it It had moved a lot so I trimmed it a bit. given away so don't know if it is still moving but horror upon horror the recipient has put it in a window recess :(

But I like your bowl, the lines, finish and of course the warmth of oak.

Lovely colour. Its really like that 1987 storm oak I keep making things from and posting here. A real coffee/caramel quality to it. I find many oak trees give a more anodyne, paler colour that just isn't as rich, more washed out but that's sumptuous. Like chocolate sauce :)

that's a nice bowl please correct me but is that off the same oak I had off you when I picked up the laburnum?
if so I look forward to turning it
Regards
Bill

Hi Bill
No this bit has been kicking around for years, I think the bit I gave you was quite green. Have you turned any of that laburnum yet, would be great to see some pics?
