Thanks for the link. Having a quick look at the pax tenon saws the shaping of the English elm handles is disappointing . The use of a pressed folded brass back is an interesting feature. Not so commonly found nowadays. (hammer)

Yes, the shape is a little "mass produced" - it could easily be personalised, though. Not that I'd want to spend that money then re-carve the handle.

Hello,

Those Pax 1776 saws are really very good. The Elm handle is done on CNC with a bit of hand finishing, but they are only lightly oiled, so can be shaped to suit the user and re oiled to blend everything in. The handle isn't 'far off' so I wouldn't let having to do some minor shaping put you off. Lets face it, if it was beautifully shaped by hand, they would be a lot more expensive. I think they are about the best value saws available for a traditional type. The blade quality is very good and all the brass bits are great.

Or buy the crown and do a bit more shaping. You'll be limited to making it a comfortable grip rather than an elegant looking handle (you are limited by the amount of material) but I suspect the steel quality to be the same. The Pax that I bought years ago actually looked like the Crown, except that it was an open handle.

I converted the Pax from 21 TPI to a 'healthy' 16 TPI  . As I said, not the most elegant to look at but it does feel very good in the hand.
