An Animal.

I really should have thought more about the things on my list  but then I guess it is supposed to be a challenge.

I like the definition for animal:" based on Latin animalis 'having breath' from anima 'breath' "

So there you go. something that breathes, and yes, that includes fish and the 'recognisable' mythical/ literary creatures (dragons, unicorns, snuffleupagus, etc)
Can be a toy, an ornament, a item of jewellry, anything really.

Usual rules:
Open to anyone and everyone.
To be made on the lathe using wood turning tools.
no minimum or maximum size.
It may be made from one piece or made of multiple parts (preferably all turned).
other materials may be used to join/ connect/ embellish/ animate/ etc
Decoration, colouring, texturing is allowed, but again remember its about the turning

Please post 3 or 4 images of your work along with a brief note about how you made it, what tools and finish you used, what wood (if known) and the objects dimensions etc.

1 showing a general view
1 showing a side on view
1 showing a rear or underside view
1 optional photo showing any other feature you think might be of interest

Image size please use image size 640 x 480 0.3 mp, same previous months

Please upload your pics and description between ..

10pm on the 26th
and
10pm on the 28th

After this time the thread will be locked for Judging
Results will be given on or around 30th

This months judge will be Richard

Any entry's that are outside the rules and requirements will not be judged
The Judges decision is final ( Any negative comments re judging must be via PM only and not on the open forum )
NO Critique or comments on any work until After the Judging and results please.

Any questions please post them in this thread. Have fun! and just a reminder ANYONE can join in

Hi Nev

Vic Perrin raised a good point last month, how many entries are allowed? There is nothing stated.

I have always assumed only one, but if multiple entries are made, are all of them considered or only the first one? How many places can be won?

hmm
short answer is 1.

Some of the newer members may not know, but I inherited the running of the monthly challenge from someone who is unfortunately no longer a forum member. The original idea of the challenge was to get people turning and maybe push them to try something new. The original rules were that the entries must be new work (no dusty relics) and only one entry per person, So I have just continued with them.

There have been a few ('how can we improve/ change / modify/get more interest in the challenge) threads in the past which do throw up some good suggestions, but people being people, some agree and some disagree and inevitively it comes down to not being able to please everyone all of the time.

That said, with the dwindling amount of entries in the challenge maybe something needs to be done to increase the level of interest and get more people taking part?
I shall start a fresh thread later to discuss.

I'm probably out this month guys. I'm gutted.

After the move, my lathe and all my tools are buried in the garage under 6ft of stuff.
Not impressed!

About a week to go and I still cant see my lathe, let alone get to it! workshop full of bathroom bits and building materials  .
Will this be the first month in 26 months  I dont get an entry in on time?
I hope not [-o<

I hope not too, but must look on the bright side, a chance for the rest of us, maybe......

I still think it's the height of irresponsibility to allow your lathe to get buried, though. What were you thinking of? And Melinda as well.

I consider myself severely reprimanded! !.....
And am highly considering doing an impression of a mountain goat, climbing to the back of the garage and turning a token entry.... to make myself feel better

So 9.30 on closing night and 3 entry's in the challenge. .. sooooo gutted I still cant get to my lathe.
And this was one of my favourite months!!! Gutted gutted gutted
