It's a Woodbloke Woodgloat!!

It's not often these days that I get a chance to gloat, being a hard-up, impoverished pensioner :-" :-({|= but today's a bit of an exception because I've been and bought some wood...but not just any old wood:

...these are three, 25mm thick boards of prime English Walnut :mrgreen: Not only this piece but this:

...spectacular piece is also 25mm thick. I'm saving the best for last though :mrgreen: :mrgreen: as this piece:

...measures a full 65mm thick. The proprietor didn't really want to let me have it as he'd earmarked it for shotgun stocks...you can see where he'd chalked the gun butts onto the plank. In the end he relented and let me have it for a very acceptable price \

All of those boards are out the centre of the log so there's very little sap on each but as is usual, there's some cracking down the centre of one of them, but even so, there's a hell of lot of really top quality walnut there. It's not apparent from the pics, so you can only appreciate just how good it is 'up close and personal' It's all air dried and is pretty much 'ready to go' but I'm going to leave it for a while longer to condition a little more. I do have a small project to do in it though, so I may just rough out a few bits later on and put them in-stick under the bench - Rob
