So I've always wanted to build a blanket box, but with everything eles going on in life never got around to it, having moved house 3 times in the last 5yrs, it's only this year that I've got a place to set up a stable workshop. I went along to the Mac timbers open days in the summer and bought 4cu ft of oak from mike (great bloke and great place to visit). With several enormous planks of oak in the workshop I set about the build below, mostly the photos are self-explanatory. This project has taken me about 4months to complete, mainly due to doing other work on the new house, at least for now I can spend some more time in the workshop.

Hope you like, Tom.

Looks very nice, I bet it weighs a fair bit!

You're not wrong, it's definitely a 2 person lift now, but there's something reassuring about its soundness, and if anyone ever sits on it, then hopefully it'll be plenty strong enough.

For anyone that's interested its finished in 3 coats of chestnut products hard wax oil, first time I've used it, but it goes on really easy and provides a lovely glossy finish without too much effort, highly recommend.

Thanks for all the really nice comments, Tom.

Tom,

If I were you, i would decant half of the Hard Wax Oil that you have left into another sealed container. I did this as soon as i opened it, and after about 6 months of on and off use, the remnants of the first half are starting to go a bit gloopy, and it is very very difficult to get the top of the metal container off. The second half, sealed in a small pop bottle are still fine, so it saved me having to either try and thin or ultimately throw away the lot.

Nice product though, it works well and looks good.

Mark,

Thanks for the advice, I've already encountered the dreaded stuck lid requiring subtle application of mole grips! I'll give a small pop bottle a go.

Regards, Tom.
