I have tried to quote another forumite's post on a few occasions now, but when I press the quote button I am not presented with a chance to add text, with the post quoted, visible in the thread!

Is a puzzlement, as Yul Bryner would have said. :dunno:

Just press the reply arrow.

If you want to answer a post use "Reply"
If you want to insert a quote, like this -

use the "quote" then insert where you want it.
