I have in my possession a Hobbies treadle Lathe cum Fretsaw.
I seem to recall the main wheel connected to the smaller pulley by a piece of leather joined by a piece of thread.
Is my recollection correct and where would I find such goods today?
Thank you in anticipation.
Russell.

On my Mothers Treadle Sewing machine the leather belt was joined by a metal staple or cleat, to fit or repair a hole was pieced in the belting ends with a sharp bodkin/awl (mind your fingers was only said once, never repeated) the wire staple passed through and folded over with a pair of pliers with suitably formed nose. (ex fashion industry machining shop in B'ham, every machinist had to have them apparently)

Slightly off topic, I can remember my mothers treadle machine's belt "clicking"every time it went round and the joiner clip
met the pulley! Rodders

Had some off them and it was cheap including the joining staples 8)

Would love to hear a bit more about your lathe/fretsaw.
Is it alloy or cast iron?
I am trying to find the circular saw attachment for my cast iron one.
Also have the later alloy one.
