Hi,
I found a nice piece of wood on the beach, its very nicely marked and the inner grain is quite like a map :)
Anyone one know what I've got??

Spalted Beech to be more precise - The black lines are the first stages of rot due to fungal attack - gives a lovely feature to the wood though if it hasnt progressed too far!

It does look like Beech with the black spalting, but it also looks like sycamore, although it's hard to tell from your photo do you have a better closeup?

If it's not rotten why don't you turn it and see what it's like it may be really nice.
