My present set up is a 40" tv screen working as computer and monitor.

I want to connect the old 23 acer monitor as well to my desktop for viewing when I play my Yamaha keyboard.

Can I leave the hdmi cable still connected to the desktop (the screen can be turned off manually) and have the vga cable to the 23" screen then working also with lead permanently connected. ( I suppose the screen can also be switched off also when 40" is running)

What happens if I forget to disconnect one of the leads and have the two running, would I blow something up?

Yes you can.

You can probably run both screens at once, either both showing the same image, or as two screens with the option of dragging what is on one screen over to the other one.

How well this works depends on the processing power of your "graphics card" which is probably just part of the motherboard these days, not a separate swappable card.

Windows 7 makes this all a lot more intelligible than it used to be, with quite good messages and diagrams asking what you want to do on each screen.

Andy, Pleased to say displays at two screens work very well.

It is better for me if I prioritise which screen is the master because screens have different formats and tablet or mouse do not coordinate well if trying to work .
If at music stool and reading music score I find it best to designate screen two so stylus matches tablet.

Thanks again for leading me into something new in the PC world. (hammer)

(the Ipad at the keyboard is too small for comfort)
