Hi,

I'm planning on buying a new bandsaw. I had settled on the Hammer N4400, but happened to see that they have recently released a slightly smaller model, the N3800.

The only differences I can find are:
N4400:
Motor 2,5 kW
wheel diameter: 440 mm
table size 420 x 575 mm
table tilts -10°–+45°
blade length: 3976 mm
blade width: 6-25 mm
total height: 1865 mm
weight: 170 kg

N3800:
Motor 1,5 kW
wheel diameter: 380 mm
table size 400 x 510 mm
table tilts -5°–+45°
blade length 3556 mm
blade width: 6-20 mm
total height: 1750 mm
weight 150 kg

As far as I can see, those are the only differences. Slightly smaller, and slightly lighter. From that, it sounds like the smaller would be enough for me, as I rarely need wider blades than 12 mm (I might try a slightly wider for resawing, but otherwise 12 mm is perfect).

Has anyone had a look at both of them? How much does the price differ? (can't find a quote anywhere).

I don't have a bandsaw and was looking at these two, too.

I THINK the height may be slightly less, as well. But not sure.

Hammer/Felder will give you a price if you put in details on their site. Alternatively, call them and a potentially slightly annoying salesman will sporadically phone you until you either buy / tell him you've bought elsewhere.

Apparently they do deals on exdemo models, but I'm not set up to buy yet, so haven't investigated this.

HTH
