Glue for Stairs

So I have these raw wooden construction wood stairs - like 25cm plywood.

I need to attach 3cm oak boards, and I think something like construction adhesive would be required.

They are not perfectly flat (the sub material) and I need time to move/ settle them into position - so i was thinking a thick bead of construction adhesive would be best, like this: http://www.loctiteproducts.com/p/pl_ca_ ... hesive.htm

any thoughts / suggestions?

I used a similar one to fix thresholds on very uneven timbers. Brilliant.

If that's the route you take and you've not used the stuff before, make sure there's no dust or dirt on the surfaces - you can literally wash them as PU needs moisture to set it off. You can get glues with different setting speeds and be VERY aware how it expands - it'll blow your work apart if you're not careful.

Right, so the wife is at a specialist flooring company / installer on the way home - and they gave her some totally different glue, runny stuff like in my workshop which won't do at all. And for varnish (i asked for 20 litre to spray), she was given Adler sealing coat for wooden floors, one litre, which should do 30sqm she was told. Again looks like the wrong thing shame cos it's an hours drive to nearest place...

You've probably got a standard PU adhesive. It's good but won't take up gaps like the thicker cartridge stuff. I haven't heard of that product, but I wouldn't hesitate to use water based stuff - in NZ the vast majority of domestic floors are wooden and water based is the norm.

Yes, I really want to be able to "squish" the wood into the glue, so I can set it right.

As for the varnish, I was expecting water based, but normally I get 20l of something in a can to spray. This looks like a rather dainty 0.7l bottle that I might use for some small specialist purpose.

So I drove one hour to the flooring place, who said that it was really really hard to refund, they didn't know how, and they'll call me next week. Then I decided to go another 15 minutes to the industrial zone to get what I needed, however there was a big accident in a 3km tunnel and I was stuck in the tunnel for over an hour, and got the shop at the moment it closed, and took 2 hours to drive back.

My wife thinks the world is telling me to use what she bought ;-)

Stixall should do the job nicely. Relatively cheap (£5 ish a tube) and really does seem to hold well. Unlike pu glue you wouldn't have to weight it down to get it to stay put.

Agree with coley, I have used that on a recent stair build. Works a treat, and easy to use.

Can't find that here Had to get some "universal construction adhesive" which looks like bog standard B&Q brand stuff. Fingers crossed!
