Found some free CAD software - never tried these packages but they are free (it says)

This is also free and is a complete 3D solid modelling package with a few minor restrictions.

I use high end CAd packages for work (SDRC-Ideas and Catia) and Alibre does just about everthing they do for nothing.

No connections etc.

If people want to start simple, then a good and free 2d package that has many of the best features of Autocad, before it got complicated, is Felixcad LT which can be found at: http://www.givemepower.de
