This is my third attempt at posting on this subject, advice apreciated as I dont want to nacker my customers materials.

At last I have moved into the new workshop, what a relief to have space to move around at last. More shop pics to folow but first a technical query, see images below.

I have to make a pair of benches out of a large log that fell out of my customers tree a few years back, I think it is Cedar and it is well seasoned The benches are going to live outside and have metal frames supporting them.

What finish does anybody reccomend, my new workshop neighbour reccomends 'Two Pack' varnish, we were going leave the timber to go grey naturally but it is too beautiful to do this to. What finishes can anybody reccomend.

Also how as it cut, bandsaw? would it be as dangerous a job as I imagine? the pieces of wood ar 2m long each.

all the best, Chunko'.

I would always go with an oil finish on something like this.
There was a grand designs where the guy was a cabinetmaker and he built his house clad in cedar and put 7 coats of linseed oil on it and that looked good, go for raw cold pressed and go for that number of coats and it should look good, it will require periodic maintenance coats to retain the look though.
I always get my linseed oil from here
