Just want to run an idea past you guys.

External side hung doors for the workshop.
Considering using external door blanks and cladding these with Cedral type cement boards.
Any thoughts or ideas, anyone tried it.

Are the solid plywood clad door blanks appropriate to use externally or will they delaminate?

Thanks in advance.

Ive had a 1hour ply flush door used as an external door for about 8 years now and its still fine. It was coated with light oak sikkens.

So if I get an 8 x 4 door blank it will need edging with 50mm hardwood.

Thoughts on best way to attach it considering weight of the door?

Yes lippings to edges are important.

You want a door with a timber core not chipboard. It would be much stronger and lipping would glue on well. Iwouldnt be so keen on gluing lippings to chipboard, but lippings onto a timber would be very strong, probably biscuit and pu glue would be emough.

I would be tempted to lip the bottom of the door, then the sides.

I would use heavy duty reversible cup hinges. A decent size head drip to protect the head.
