I was cutting a stopped housing in some beech this morning on the router table. I'd made 3 passes at different depths. Instead of lifting the beech off when I got to my mark, as it was the last pass I switched off the router and waited for it to stop. When routing a housing the sawdust always builds up in the housing. I lifted the piece off and was walking away when a wisp of smoke caught my eye on the router table. I thought it was the router burning out. On investigation it was a very charred bit of dust, as I poked it around in the remaining dust and as it got some air to it, it glowed red. Somewhat worrying!! Especially as I had done it several times before, gathered the dust onto a shovel and tipped it all into the bin. I'm thinking it was when I left the beech in place while the cutter slowed.
