I have just bought an old single phase startrite saw table with a factory fited single phase motor
Motor wouldn't start with out help so suspected the centifugal switch
stipped it down and the switch was pushed along the shaft.... very firmly attached mind ...so far that the springs were catching on alloy spurs on the rotor
The assembly was no where near the switch.
My question is where should i position the assembly ?
theres a circlip groove with a clip in it does the assembly plastic part need to but up to that? as I have shown in the photo
and how to I fasten the assembly to the shaft? araldite? i gentle prised the assembly off it was hard work but it seems unduly loose now

Many thanks for any help

You need to fit the motor end cap and observe the switch action. The black plastic disc should be close to but not opening the switch. The when the weights are in the extended position, the disc should open the switch fully.
Different motors attach the weights differently -- sometime a screw sometimes pressfit
Once you have found the optimum position, mark it and then glue on with real-mans slow setting araldite making absolutely sure that none gets into the mechanism.
NEVER EVER lubricate the mechanism. This can cause it to collect dust and stop working and then the motor can burn out.

The black plastic disc should be pressing the switch contact whilst at rest and at speed the disc moves towards to the rotor therefore loosing contact with the switch on this motor. (opening switch)
I cant for the life of me see how its moved along the shaft so much
i'm sure the motor hasnt been apart before

Ok the switch is that way round. As long as the switch opens when the motor is up to speed, it should be fine.

I don't know either but it is easy to fix with some araldite.
