I've found that quite a few buyers have been taking longer than normal to pay after winning. Nothing terrible or anything I worried about but never-the-less a bit unusual.

Today I think I found out why. One chap apologised for the late payment (it was only just on 3 days so no problem) but explained he'd been waiting to put other items in his basket which he'd ended up not winning.

It seems eBay have this newish scheme (to me) whereby you can put items from different sellers all in a "basket" and pay, by PayPal, all in one go later. Hence all the sellers except the last one get kept waiting. Of course the buyer gets to wait too as the shipping from their earlier buys is delayed.

Ah well, another eBay improvement. :(

I did not think it was possible to put auction items in the basket. I use the facility but only with BIN items where it is convenient to pay with one transaction.

EDIT: I've just been through my ebay watch list and only BIN items have the link to add then to the basket.

I think the slow payers are using it as an excuse. They may be waiting to win a number of items before they put them in the basket but they have to be completed auction items.

I use that system regularly Roger as it saves paypal hassle - but only for BIN items. As you rightly say, delivery would be delayed as well and I for one like to pay immediately and get the stuff delivered asap.

So is it definitely BIN items only and there's no option to use the basket after winning an auction?

Dunno Roger!

I used it just a couple of days ago but never crossed my mind to use it for auction items so haven't tried.

Will see it the option is there next time I win an auction.

I recently won a couple of items locally that I collected and paid for with cash. The next time I bought another item when I went to pay it gave me am amalgamated list of both the BIN and auction items with an option of a single payment. I then had to select and 'remove' the items I had already paid for in cash.

It looked as if Ebay included everything that had not been marked as 'paid for'. I think that some individuals that don't do much on Ebay don't update the status or leave feedback (I think they just use it to sell the items and then don't use it again until they have a need to buy and sell). What I do with any item that I pay cash for is to change the status to 'payment sent'.
