Need some help. Kids have plenty of DVDs but no matter how much I shout (or calmly explain) the discs are never put back in their cases and get scratched to bits. So thought it'd be a good idea to make back-ups and keep the originals safe. How do I get around the copyright protection? I did see a forum somewhere that explained how but I think it only was in conjuction with Nero whereas I have Roxio.

TIA

Hi Noely
Download this little freeware prog.
http://www.downseek.com/download/2316.asp
Run dvd decrypter and it will copy any dvd onto your hardrive, removing encryption at the same time.
Then use your burning program to copy it onto another disc.
If its a double layer disc you wont be able too-too large!! so try this one-
http://www.dvdshrink.org/what.html
it allows you to "re-master" dvd discs, removing adverts, languages you dont need, etc. It also will compress the material so you can fit it on single layer discs.
hope this helps
Merry Christmas

This is a bit of a minefield as I've recently found out!
So much info on VideoHelp website - everything you need to know.
Here's the basic rundown:
Decrypt the film onto your harddrive (we use DVD Decrypter - foolproof)
Compress the file (we use OneClickDVD)
Burn the DVD onto the DVD drive (again - OneClickDVD, does both jobs)
It is essential to use DVDs that are compatable with your drive, and I'm not just talking DVD+R or DVD-R, but the actual make of the disc as well  (This info is on VideoHelp website)

Best of luck

Excellent Philly and Aragorn, many thanks.
