Just bought a well used but sound Meddings DrilTru Mk3 but no drive belt. Does any one know the correct Size? I think it is about 42" but not sure of width and thickness. Meddings want £35 The nearest transmission shop entails a 60mile roundtrip!

Thanks

Run a piece of sting around the pulleys to measure it and order it online - it's a standard V belt. Make sure you leave some adjustment when measuring.
PS have you not got a motor factors closer?

Welcome to the forum

i cant help you on this, but i saw your wanted ad for a new table. I think that you may be lucky to find one, but have seen successful results of people filling the arc of holes with an epoxy putty filler. It may be worth a try... http://www.halfords.com/motoring/paints ... poxy-putty

product is an example- i have no experience of this one.

I have a dril-tru too- mine is in pieces at present, and i don't have a belt for it! i also have a parts breakdown for the MkII and MkIII, but there are no sizes on it. on the MkII it states "42M V Belt" but that doesnt seem to mean much to Google

I need a drive belt for my Record Power bandsaw and the propriety item is £15. A quick google search and i found one to fit for less than a fiver.

Piece of string as Phil says works well but if you're stuck I'll run a tape around mine. Might not be until the weekend now

I sent you a pm earlier re maybe fitting a metal plate or wood sub table on your drill press but as Marcross said epoxy putty should work, I used JB Weld on my cast iron bandsaw table as well as to stick carbide tips to the rear thrust guides with excellent results.

Hi Alan

i've just been into the workshop and put a length of string around mine which is 1040 mm ( 41" ). That would be the inside circumference of the belt.

That is of course assuming yours is the same model though remember there is some adjustment on the mechanism.
Bob

EDIT:

Don't know if my belt is original but markings say" continental 10 x 1060 Z 1080 " and approx size measured with callipers is as drawing.

Many Thanks for your replies.

I used a piece of rope around the pulleys and obtained results from 41 with motor closes
to to 43 at its greatest adjustment. I will try with string on bottom surface of pulley

I will try the motor factor in Penrith

I had an estimate for £150 to repair face plate professionally but this would almost double cost of drill and inverter. I will use some sort of epoxy based metal filler and intended to make drill table

It is great to have access to such a knowledgeable and friendly group!
