Damaged Polish

Hi All

I hope that someone can help. We have a number of polished items (not just my wood turnings but a hat stand fro example) which have, due to a variety of reasons now have water marks on them.

Any thoughts how I can get rid of the marks and return the said items to a nice polished state?

what polish is it- shellac?

If se there is a trick by wiping with meths and burning it that I have seen, but never done.
